Frequently asked questions
Who are facials good for?
Facials are a great option for anyone that wants a clear, balanced complexion. They provide deep cleansing with the mixture of professional grade products, technology, and the knowledge of a professional esthetician who understands skin conditions and anatomy. Facials can maintain the health of skin, address and correct certain skin conditions, and improve the overall appearance and texture of your skin.
Facials are available to both men and women of any age and those that need to combat specific skin issues. However, there are some conditions that can prevent the performance of some or all facial services. They include:
• Contagious diseases such as HIV, herpes or hepatitis, pinkeye, or ringworm
• Skin disorders or diseases
• Pregnancy (unless cleared by your physician)
• Skin Irritation
• Allergies to products and ingredients
• Severe, uncontrolled hypertension
• Limited services can be performed (sometimes with medical clearance):
• Electrical contraindications like pacemakers and implants
• Medical Conditions
What are the benefits of a facial?
Regular facial treatments:
• Deep Cleanse
• Professional exfoliation
• Increase Circulation and Detoxifies
• Relaxes the senses, nerves, and muscles
• Stimulates skin functions and metabolism
• Slows premature aging
• Treats conditions such as dryness, oiliness, or redness
• Softens wrinkles and aging lines
• Helps clear up minor blemishes and acne
• Professional extractions
What are extractions?
Extractions are the removal of impurities and impacted pores – specifically, blackheads, whiteheads, milia (hardened “sesame seed” like whiteheads), and sebaceous filaments (pores blocked by oil produced in the skin). Removal of these impactions reduces pore size while allowing them to “breathe”.
How do I prepare for a facial?
We will remove any makeup you are wearing prior to your facial. However, if you arrive with no makeup, we will have more time to focus on other, more results-driven elements of your facial.
How do I know what type of facial I need?
Our estheticians are trained and licensed to properly identify various skin types, conditions, and the proper approach to each. Based on your intake form, consultation, and a thorough skin analysis she will be able to suggest the best approach to reaching your skin care goals.
Will my skin look red afterwards?
Everyone reacts differently but the most amazing (and most common) thing about receiving a facial is that you leave the spa glowing, brighter and with refined skin – think of how you look after leaving the salon post blowout. However, if we are treating acne, then with extractions there could be some redness. During that treatment, we use a certified organic soothing mask that will reduce redness and puffiness within 5 minutes.
How often should I get a facial?
Facial frequency depends on the condition of your skin and what your skin goals are. It could be anywhere from once a month to once a week. Also, it’s important to maintain your at-home skin care regime. The best results come about when we work together on your skin care goals and needs. We can’t wash your face everyday for you, so get in that bathroom, nourish your skin and let us maintain it!
Can I wear makeup after my facial?
You sure can. Some people love that post facial glow and do not feel the need to but your skin will continue to glow even if you apply makeup post facial.
What does a facial do? Is there more to it than simply feeling good?
Yes! Skin care treatments coupled with great skin care products should not be considered a luxury, but a way of life for anyone who wants to look and feel great. Hydrophilic cleansers, serums, botanicals, and scrubs are products used during our facials to achieve firm, even-toned, glowing more youthful skin. While you do receive a relaxing massage during a facial, that is certainly not the only benefit!
What products do you use?
Only the best, of course! We proudly use and recommend Obagi Medical, Zo Obagi, and EltaMD, a professional and medical grade skin care line.
Do I really need to wear sunscreen daily?
The NUMBER ONE question we are asked by people everywhere (including estheticians) is, “If you could tell me in one word the one thing to do to prevent aging, what would it be?” Our answer is ALWAYS, “Sunscreen.” We cannot emphasize it enough! Rain, sunshine or snow, you should always use sunscreen during the day. The suns aging rays are always present. We always recommend a 30 SPF and when out in the direct daylight, reapply every hour or two. Keep in mind, one can get a more intense sunburn from water or snow reflections than just sun alone. Save yourself from aging! When you come in, ask about our Daily Protect. We swear by it, and we have an oil free option.
It's my very first facial, what should I expect?
Facials take about 45 minutes to 90 minutes for your first time to accommodate time for consultation. If you are coming glammed up and with your hair just done, please note, we’re going to mess it up! During a facial, your hairline will get wet.
What does "Customized Facial" mean?
A Customized Facial means we will decide on your treatment based on your skin type and condition. We will also determine the best products to use. We cleanse your skin according to its type and treat for its condition. Our back bar is specially formulated for all skin types and will create and maintain gorgeous, healthy skin. You will be amazed!
Can I get a facial if I am pregnant?
Absolutely. With your hormones going crazy, your skin probably is as well. We will accommodate and create an individualized treatment just for you and your little one.
